FAQs

Q?

Can Homeopathy Help Me?

A.

You can choose to visit a homeopath for most reasons that you would go to your Doctor for. However most people, once they start to see a homeopath become interested in keeping and remaining healthy so that you are a lot less susceptible to illness and disease.  Many homeopaths see patients ranging from promoting and building wellbeing, right through the scale to people who are severely ill and have a large number of medications for life threatening diseases.

Homeopathy can help reduce the severity of side effects of mainstream medicine, it is gentle enough to be used on newborn babies and during palliative care at the end of life. It is strong enough to help promote healing bones and diverse enough to help make grieving a loved one less overwhelming.

More about how homeopathy works

Q?

Can I have homeopathy alongside my usual medication?

A.

Yes, Homeopathy is a complementary medication which means it works with other medications.  It will not alter their effectiveness.   It might be necessary to return to your Doctor to make sure you still need the medications - homeopathy helps you optimise your health so you will need less medications in the long term.

As a homeopath I will not ask you to stop taking your prescribed medications.  I might however advice about your diet or supplements to your diet to help optimise your health.  If you are low in energy, I need to make sure you are providing your body with the right fuel to power it, it is part of understanding what your body needs and how it uses energy.

Homeopathy puts your health back into your hands.  You know your body better than anybody else and so you need to be responsible for what goes into it and keeping up the maintenance required to run on all four cylinders!

Q?

How long does Treatment last?

A.

Homeopathic treatment is personalised medicine - which means it is tailored to your requirements.   For symptoms just a few weeks old, treatment can be fairly rapid, for long term, chronic illness, recovery would usually take place over several months.  It would be normal to expect to have homeopathic consultations once a month for 3 or 4 months and after that to assess your progress and work out a programme which suits your rate of healing.

Homeopathy is about taking back responsibility for your own health.  We would hope that as you begin to recover you need less help and therefore only return for occasional check ups if required.

Q?

Is there Scientific Evidence for Homeopathy?

A.

There are thousands of Controlled Trials proving the efficacy of homeopathy. It is my belief that homeopathy needs to be trialled in a different way to conventional medicine because we do not treat symptoms with homeopathic medicines so it is difficult to accept trials conducted  which measure the treatment of only one symptom.

This argument is not accepted in pharmaceutical circles, and often the homeopathic trials that are conducted are not recognised, however there is now a growing list of clinical trials that have successfully been recognised and published in peer reviewed journals.

Q?

Is Homeopathy Placebo?

A.

Many reports (or Doctors) may claim that Homeopathy can't possibly work and so it must be a Placebo effect.

So what is Placebo?  My understanding of placebo is that if you believe something will help you then it probably will.  So - my question to you is... if you cut yourself - do you usually heal without medicine?  Is your body capable of self healing in normal circumstances? Of course it is.  This is your body healing.  Placebo (or belief) must help your self healing process.  We know that your brain can lie to your body and your body will believe anything.  An example of this is phantom limb syndrome (where your body feels pain even though you have no limb there).

Here are some facts:

  • We have many high quality placebo controlled homeopathic trials .   Click here for evidence details.  Homeopathic remedies consistently outperform placebo.
  • We often treat babies and animals with great success proving that emotional belief cannot be the reason for the success of the medication.

So - if placebo is your own self healing mechanism being re-activated to begin the healing process then could homeopathy be working with placebo?

Our bodies are capable of self healing, sometimes we just need a helping hand to promote self healing.  The helping hand may be something we resets the self healing mechanism so it can begin working.  Whatever we choose to help kick start the self healing process, needs to be natural, it needs to work with our bodies not against it and it needs to create no harm.
